Tim Shusta, Counsel at Phelps Dunbar, received the 2018 James McKay Port Achievement Award at the Anchor Ball, hosted by Port Tampa Bay, Tampa Port Ministries, and the Tampa Bay Maritime Scholarship Foundation. Tim is one of 17 esteemed recipients of this award established to recognize individuals who have made significant contributions to the Port of Tampa.
This lifetime achievement award recognizes Tim’s substantial service to the Tampa Port community including twelve years of service volunteering as Chairman of the Board of Tampa Foreign Trade Zone #79, service to the International Propeller Club of the United States, as well as his participation in founding and serving on the Board of the Port of Tampa Maritime Industries Association.
His commitment to the community can also be seen in Tim’s efforts to create positive change in legislation. He has focused his legislative efforts in drafting amendments requiring two Port Commissioners to have backgrounds in maritime as well as eliminating duplicate security credentials and double charges for background checks for port workers in the State of Florida.
Additionally, Tim is a founding member and President and Chairman of the Board of the Tampa Bay Maritime Scholarship Foundation, which provides scholarships to local Hillsborough County High School students pursuing careers in the maritime industry.
