Appellate Team Secures Four Constitutional Wins in Fifth Circuit to Close Out 2024

Phelps secured the latest in a series of appellate wins on Dec. 11. Over the past few months, the team presented winning oral arguments in four cases, which all involved constitutional challenges, before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit in New Orleans.

Two of the cases involved the defense of law enforcement, one centered around a challenge to a municipal ordinance, and the other required the team to carefully navigate the complex Heck doctrine. Jackson Office Managing Partner Todd Butler and associate Mallory Bland led the Phelps appellate team to secure the rulings that achieved victories for several clients.

As one of the top five law firms with the most appeals handled at the Fifth Circuit, this run of victories highlights Phelps’ reputation as the go-to firm for appellate litigation in Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas.
