Houston Bar Association’s Environmental Law Section Presents CERCLA 201: The SUPERfundamentals
Phelps Austin Counsel Phillip R. Dupré will speak at the Houston Bar Association’s Environmental Law Section session entitled, “CERCLA 201: The SUPERfundamentals.” The presentation takes a deep dive into the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) practice and offers a refresher on the law’s basic framework, negotiations and settlements with the federal government and other responsible parties, and insights into issues arising when a federal agency is a potentially responsible party in negotiations with the EPA.
The presentation will also cover hot topics such as the EPA’s designation of PFAS as hazardous substances, ability to recover damages to cultural resources as natural resource damages, settlement deference to EPA-negotiated settlements and the overlap (or not) between cost-recovery and contribution claims.
The session takes place January 21, 2026, at the Coronado Club, 919 Milam, Suite 500 in Houston. CLE credit is available.
