    In Our Communities: Reuben Anderson Honored Among First African-American Supreme Court Justices

    JACKSON, Miss.–Jackson Senior Partner and former Mississippi Supreme Court Justice, Reuben Anderson, was recently honored at the March on Washington Film Festival. Justice Anderson was one of six African-American State Supreme Court Justices recognized for their service and contribution to the civil rights movement and the first wave of African-American State Supreme Court Justices.

    “By carving a distinct path in national jurisprudence, these Supreme Court Justices, past and present, served as vital mentors, role models and precedent-setters in our communities, “ stated the awards committee.

    The invite-only ceremony took place at the United States Supreme Court building during the 2018 March on Washington Film Festival. Opening remarks were given by Attorney General Loretta Lynch and the justices participated in a Q&A session moderated by Laura Jarrett of CNN. The festival featured 27 events, ranging from films to art exhibits, took place over a 10 day period.

    Justice Anderson was the first African-American Supreme Court Justice in Mississippi and presided over the opening of Mississippi’s Civil Rights Museum at the end of 2017. Read more here.
