Marshall Redmon Named to New Orleans CityBusiness 2026 Leadership in Law

    August 13, 2026

NEW ORLEANS — Aug. 13, 2026 — New Orleans CityBusiness inducted Phelps Managing Partner Marshall Redmon into its 2026 Leadership in Law class for uniting the city’s legal community during times of crisis while leading the firm's continued growth across the South.

Phelps elected Marshall managing partner in 2019. Under his leadership, the firm has grown its ranks to more than 450 lawyers, expanded into Tennessee and new markets in Florida, Texas and Alabama, and now serves clients from 18 offices across the southern United States and in London. Marshall also directs the firm's adoption and governance of innovative data analytics and artificial intelligence strategies.

Marshall is the first to rally the New Orleans legal community when unprecedented events call for leadership. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he organized weekly calls between 30 law firm leaders and created L.I.G.H.T (Lawyers' Initiative Giving Hospitals Thanks), raising more than $150,000 to feed frontline health care workers and support the city's food and music industries. After the 2025 New Year's Day attack in the French Quarter, he helped organize 23 local firms to donate more than $47,000 to the Greater New Orleans Foundation's tragedy fund for victims and their families. Marshall received the Citizen Lawyer Award from the Louisiana State Bar Association for his leadership and community work.

“This recognition reflects the work of businesses and organizations that care deeply about this city,” Marshall said. “Challenges change. Progress still depends on people willing to step up for a common goal. The region's future depends on that shared effort. If we do all the things we're capable of doing, that future is unlimited.”

In his practice, Marshall helps insurers and professionals navigate complex professional liability issues. With more than 30 years of experience handling every side of coverage disputes, he guides clients through policy analysis, litigation and alternative dispute resolution proceedings. He advises national and global insurers on high-exposure matters and provides strategic counsel on insurance programs for some of the world's largest professional services companies.

Marshall is a Fellow of the American College of Coverage Counsel, an invitation-only organization of leading insurance lawyers in the U.S. and Canada. He is AV Preeminent Peer Review Rated by Martindale-Hubbell and is routinely recognized by leading peer-review publications. He was named "Lawyer of the Year" for Professional Malpractice Law – Defendants by The Best Lawyers in America.

A self-described Phelps "lifer," Marshall started in the firm’s mailroom in 1984 and joined as an attorney after graduating from LSU Law Center in 1987. He received his Bachelor of Arts in history from Rhodes College, where his service as team captain for the Lynx football team earned him induction into the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2024.

Marshall and his fellow Leadership in Law recipients will be honored on Oct. 5 at a reception at the New Orleans Museum of Art.
