Phelps Advises Southern Energy Renewables on $1.4 Billion Methanol and Sustainable Aviation Fuel Facility in St. Charles Parish
Phelps is advising Southern Energy Renewables in the development of a $1.4 billion green methanol and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production facility in St. Charles Parish, Louisiana. The project will convert wood‑waste biomass into lower‑carbon transportation fuels and represents Southern Energy Renewables’ first commercial‑scale development in Louisiana.
The proposed facility is expected to create more than 500 direct and indirect jobs in the Southeast Region and is strategically located near hydrogen supply and key logistics infrastructure. More information about the project can be found on Southern Energy Renewable’s website.
The Phelps team is led by business lawyers Ragan Richard, Jeff Tomlinson, Paxson Guest and Cameron Miller, tax partner Ryan Moon, and government relations lawyer Dennis Blunt.
