The End of Amateur Hour: Navigating Contracts and Consequences in Today's NIL Landscape
Tampa Partner Rhett Parker will speak about the shift in college athletics from the NCAA's amateur model to today's compensation structure in a session entitled, "The End of Amateur Hour: Navigating Contracts and Consequences in Today's NIL Landscape" on Saturday, March 14 from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. His speech is part of a series of talks organized by the University of Florida Levin College of Law for Alumni Weekend.
Attendees will learn how the NCAA's amateurism laws evolved and why Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) became a legal turning point. They will also learn about today's NIL framework and how state laws and NCAA policies intersect to create it, plus key components of the House settlement, including revenue sharing, scholarship changes and roster limits. Rhett will also discuss compliance, Title IX and contractual risks lawyers should monitor as the NIL landscape continues to change.
