Tulane Admiralty Law Institute Taps Arthur Kraatz for National Advisory Board
NEW ORLEANS — May 27, 2026 — The Tulane Admiralty Law Institute elected Phelps Partner Arthur Kraatz to its National Advisory Board. He joins distinguished judges and other leading maritime lawyers to steer the future of the world’s oldest and most respected maritime law continuing legal education program.
Arthur represents maritime clients in admiralty matters ranging from vessel collisions to vessel arrests, cargo and contract disputes and maritime injury claims. He also advises on compliance with Jones Act coastwise trade and cabotage regulations and handles time-sensitive injunction proceedings and appeals. Maritime clients, including vessel owners and protection and indemnity (P&I) clubs, turn to him to manage third-party subpoena responses and complex electronic discovery. Early in his legal career, Arthur served as a judicial clerk to the Hon. Jane Triche-Milazzo of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana.
Arthur is deeply embedded in the maritime industry and has been recognized for his work by some of the country’s leading peer-reviewed rankings. After a long tenure in the Southeastern Admiralty Law Institute and the Maritime Law Association of the United States, his latest role cements his involvement in the issues shaping maritime law.
“I am honored that my peers have invited me to be part of the advisory board for the Tulane Admiralty Law Institute,” Arthur said. “The institute is renowned for its long-standing contributions to the maritime legal community. I am proud to join a long tradition of Phelps’ involvement in this prestigious organization and look forward to serving on the board.”
The National Advisory Board includes a select group of experienced maritime practitioners from across the country. Together, they direct professional development, thought leadership and continuing education for the biennial institute, held on Tulane University’s campus. Every other spring, they welcome more than 300 U.S. and international lawyers and industry leaders to a three-day conference exclusively focused on maritime law.
