Lauren Burk focuses her practice on insurance coverage, representing domestic and London market insurers in complex matters and catastrophic losses involving commercial general liability, professional liability, and excess liability policies. Lauren advises and counsels insurers on multiple areas, including drafting of policy forms, other insurance disputes, extra-contractual exposure, bad faith risks, and efficient claim resolution.
Before attending law school, Lauren worked in the insurance industry as a claims adjuster for a global art insurer in New York City. Using her art-industry experience, Lauren also represents art-related businesses in commercial and contractual disputes and litigation.
Lauren has represented both insurance and business clients in state and federal courts in various stages of litigation. She has resolved numerous cases through settlement and mediation.
Prior to joining Phelps Dunbar, Lauren served as an extern with U.S. District Court Judge Carl Barbier in the Eastern District of Louisiana, assisting with some of the early cases of the Deepwater Horizon litigation. Lauren has a long-standing interest in maritime law and continues to be involved with the Tulane Maritime Law Journal.
