Michael Hunt brings a career trial lawyer's perspective to helping clients resolve seemingly intractable disputes. With four decades of courtroom experience, he knows how to construct successful case strategies, develop compelling evidence and arguments, decide when to go to trial and bring opposing parties to the negotiating table. Known for getting quickly to the heart of disputes, Michael represents plaintiffs and defendants in complex commercial cases with a focus on design, construction and finance.

Michael has appeared in state, federal court and arbitration proceedings in Louisiana, Alabama, California, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas and Virginia. He acts for engineering and consulting firms, contractors, chemical and product manufacturers, financial institutions and insurers in:

      • Contract disputes
      • Civil and criminal antitrust claims
      • Environmental claims
      • Expropriation actions
      • Federal and state securities claims
      • Business torts, trade secrets and unfair trade practices disputes
      • Public bid and contract award claims.

In addition to litigation, owners, contractors and specialty subcontractors turn to Michael for counsel on design/build and EPC projects. He frequently assists with negotiations and contract drafting, drawing on his litigation experience to identify and minimize risks.

From 2008 - 2018, Michael served as managing partner of Phelps Dunbar. In 2020, he was appointed to the ABA Standing Committee on the Federal Judiciary, which evaluates all federal judicial nominees and provides ratings to the Senate Judiciary Committee.
