Annie Cleveland represents clients in state and federal court and guides them through every stage of litigation, including appeals. As part of her practice, she helps journalists, media organizations and businesses protect their right to report the news. She resolves First Amendment issues that delay reporting, limit access to public information and lead to disputes over speech, publication and government transparency.

When records are withheld, meetings are closed or reporting is challenged, clients need answers quickly. Annie helps them map out their options and respond strategically when the clock is ticking. She secures access to government records, challenges barriers to speech and public participation and evaluates publication risks. She also counsels clients on defamation and privacy concerns.

Annie understands the pressure clients face when legal disputes affect reporting and public communications. Before joining Phelps, she worked directly with reporters, community organizations and individuals as a Stanton Legal Fellow with Tulane Law School's First Amendment Clinic. She managed cases that shaped public policy, informed reporting and addressed questions of government accountability.

While in law school, Annie worked as a student attorney in Tulane’s First Amendment Clinic and coached the moot court alternative dispute resolution team.
