Britt Brandon helps government entities, utilities and energy companies acquire land for public infrastructure projects such as roads, electric transmission lines and pipelines through the process of eminent domain.
He leads clients through every step of the process, from analyzing title abstracts and commitments, negotiating with landowners, and directing and executing eminent domain proceedings when litigation is necessary. He uses his knowledge of large-scale construction projects and experience working with engineers to ensure that project deadlines are met.
Britt also has experience advising clients on how to comply with federal environmental statutes such as the Clean Water Act and National Environmental Policy Act. Before coming to Phelps, he worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Experience
- Managed land acquisition projects for a federal agency, successfully coordinating the acquisition of land interests in fee, easements, rights-of-way, and temporary construction easements.
- Directed eminent domain proceedings for the acquisition of real estate interests, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and facilitating timely project progression.
- Provided legal counsel on compliance with federal environmental statutes and regulations including the Clean Water Act and in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act for complex infrastructure and land development projects.
- Advised on permitting, enforcement and regulatory requirements under the Clean Water Act Section 404, as well as Rivers and Harbor Section 10 and 408 approvals, ensuring conformance with federal and state environmental standards.
