Channing J. Curtis

Channing J. Curtis focuses on litigation and appeals. Having worked with four judges in four different state and federal courts—including serving as a law clerk on the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and the Mississippi Court of Appeals—he has gained valuable experience that he carries into litigation strategy and appeals.
Channing has handled a variety of matters in the state and federal trial courts in Mississippi. In addition, he has handled matters and supported appellate litigation teams in appeals before the U.S. Supreme Court, the Fifth Circuit and the Mississippi Supreme Court.
While in law school, Channing served as Executive Notes & Comments Editor of the Mississippi Law Journal and the Federal Courts Law Review. He has published academic articles on judicial precedent, civil procedure, and jurisdictional issues, which have been cited in law reviews and judicial opinions.
Experience
- Supported appellate litigation team in appeal to the Supreme Court of the United States.
- Secured affirmance of summary judgment in favor of municipal defendants on equal-protection, discrimination, and retaliation claims in Fifth Circuit.
- Successfully petitioned Mississippi Supreme Court for interlocutory appeal of order denying motion to transfer venue in action to judicially dissolve corporations.
- Won an appeal on behalf of an employer where the Fifth Circuit affirmed the dismissal of Title VII and Section 1981 discrimination claims.
- Drafted appellate briefs in an interlocutory appeal to the Mississippi Supreme Court regarding Certificate of Need and Change of Ownership procedure on behalf of behavioral health provider.
