John Rouse Inducted as Fellow of Mississippi Bar Foundation
JACKSON, Miss. — Oct. 21, 2026 — The Mississippi Bar Foundation inducted Phelps partner John Rouse as a 2026 Fellow, one of the highest honors awarded to Mississippi lawyers. The Bar Foundation selected John in recognition of his outstanding career and demonstrated commitment to the legal profession and the public.
The Bar Foundation limits Fellows to 10% of The Mississippi Bar’s membership and adds no more than 20 new Fellows each year. John joined the 2026 class of Fellows during the foundation’s Annual Meeting and Induction Ceremony July 7 in Biloxi.
For more than two decades, John has helped to strengthen Mississippi’s legal profession through professionalism initiatives, mentorship, bar leadership and legal education. Earlier this year, The Mississippi Bar recognized that record with its 2026 Distinguished Service Award.
John recently began his third term as chair of The Mississippi Bar’s Professionalism Committee, where he helps develop resources to strengthen local bar associations across the state. He also chairs the Character and Fitness Committee for the Mississippi Board of Bar Admissions after more than 15 years of service on the committee. John has also participated in the annual James O. Dukes Law School Professionalism Program at both Mississippi law schools since 2015. Outside Mississippi, he serves as a member of ABA TIPS Ethics and Professionalism Committee.
As a Mississippi Bar Foundation Fellow, John will build on his record of service alongside other Mississippi lawyers working to uphold the quality and integrity of the legal profession.
John is an experienced trial lawyer in Phelps’ Jackson office who represents companies in complex litigation involving aviation and manufacturing, financial services and health care. He litigates in state and federal courts across the Southeast.
