Drew Norwood defends individuals and businesses in a broad range of legal disputes. A former Assistant U.S. Attorney, he is well-versed in federal court practice and has valuable courtroom experience. Before his government service, Drew practiced in the private sector and defended clients in civil ligation in a wide variety of areas, both in federal and state courts.
When litigation is needed, he manages cases from start to finish and navigates clients through any forum. He uses his skills and experience as a trial lawyer and negotiator to advise clients on their options for a successful outcome. Drew takes his oath and the profession of law seriously, striving to serve as a strong advocate for his clients, a trustworthy officer of the court, and a dutiful servant of the law.
Experience
- Represented federal agencies operating in the Southern District of Mississippi in all phases of civil litigation, from the filling of the complaint on through trial and appeal.
- Obtained dismissals and summary judgments for federal agencies facing a host of employment discrimination claims such as race discrimination, disability discrimination, age discrimination, hostile work environment, constructive discharge, failure to promote and/or retaliation.
- Won dismissals and summary judgments on medical malpractice claims brought against federal agencies, such as the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Keesler Air Force Base and other federally supported health care entities.
- Obtained dismissals of various tort claims, such as car wrecks and other types of personal injury claims, brought against federal agencies such as the U. S. Postal Service.
- Represented and advised both government agencies and private clients through negotiations, mediations and settlement conferences.
- Pursued recovery under the False Claims Act of funds obtained fraudulently through the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP).
- Represented federal agencies in their role as creditors, for bankruptcy proceedings in the Southern District of Mississippi, working with debtors’ attorneys and other creditors to reach resolutions and protect the interest of the client agency.
