Stephen W. Rider litigates disputes to achieve efficient and reliable resolutions for consumer lenders, mortgage loan servicers, banks, and motor vehicle manufacturers and distributors. A veteran advocate for clients facing regulatory threats before the Louisiana Motor Vehicle Commission (LMVC) and Louisiana Office of Financial Institutions (OFI), Steve leverages his professional network and statutory knowledge to minimize the disruption and volatility of enforcement actions and protracted lawsuits.

Advising and collaborating with national manufacturers, distributors and financial institutions, Steve handles disputes to align with corporate legal teams’ unique goals and market pressures. His representation includes individual and class actions involving allegations related to:

        • Debt collection practices
        • Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA)
        • Home Ownership and Equity Protection Act (HOEPA)
        • Lender liability
        • Mortgage escrow practices
        • Truth in Lending Act (TILA)

Steve has particular depth counseling motor vehicle companies, including the makers and distributors of cars, trucks, boats and ATVs, on alleged violations of state motor vehicle codes and other regulations. His extensive experience before state regulators helps keep clients ahead of evolving statutory and regulatory obligations. He applies a regulatory lens to strong effect, guiding clients on best practices to prevent triggering the attention of authorities.

After decades in this specialized legal discipline, Steve readily offers creative and novel approaches to solve disputes, and land on workable resolutions to consumer lending claims and other business disputes.
