Insurers turn to Mark Broom for guidance and support in navigating first-party property disputes. Mark handles all aspects of litigation and arbitration matters arising from first-party property claims. He regularly works with domestic and international insurers on open-market policies and has handled complex losses involving the following issues:

      • Catastrophic weather events
      • Industrial explosions
      • Bad faith allegations
      • Business interruption
      • Regulatory complaints and compliance
      • Fraud / Arson

Prior to joining Phelps, Mark worked with policyholders. This experience allows Mark to predict the arguments of his adversaries from a place of experience to mitigate risks for insurers from the outset of a dispute.

In addition to counseling insurers in the post-claim context, Mark adds value by offering coverage advice during the claim process. His deep knowledge of risks posed to insurers both during and after the adjustment phase qualifies him to offer advice on policy language when insurers are drafting manuscript forms during the underwriting process.

In law school, Mark received the Dean’s Achievement Award for outstanding academic performance in both Insurance Law and also in International Arbitration. He has carried this standard of outstanding performance forward into his professional career where he frequently counsels international insurers involved in arbitration.
