Clients with insureds in the Houston energy and marine sector turn to Michael Orlando for his hands-on approach to finding solutions for every problem. He helps domestic and international insurance underwriters of all sizes navigate the challenges and opportunities that come with operations in the onshore and offshore energy and marine sectors.

Michael knows each request for counsel is unique, whether it’s to decide if a claim is covered, examine contract provisions for defense and indemnity application, or determine fault in an injury dispute. That’s why he’s heavily invested in each issue, leading the case from the initial investigation through litigation, if needed. This detailed approach allows him to counsel insurers and insureds on their best steps toward resolution.

His deep understanding of the marine and energy markets ensures he knows what areas to scrutinize in even the toughest coverage or liability claims. He’s well-versed at combing through piles of complex documents, finding contract clauses and coverage details that help clients avoid costly obligations and court dates. And when issues do need to be settled in court, Michael, armed with every detail of the client’s case, prepares and executes an efficient and effective legal strategy. He has extensive experience handling:

    • CGL, MGL, MEL, OEE and P&I insurance
    • Contract disputes
    • Contractual indemnity provisions
    • IADC drilling contracts
    • Insurance coverage disputes and opinions
    • Liability disputes
    • Maintenance and cure issues
    • Master services agreements
    • Personal injury issues
    • Subrogation
    • Regulations such as the Jones Act, Longshore and Harbor Workers Compensation Act, and Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act, and oilfield anti-indemnity statutes
