Brie Zarzour has a very pragmatic and efficient approach in working with her clients. She is  extraordinarily dedicated to finding the evidence that helps clients resolve disputes cost-effectively. Brie counsels companies on high-stakes civil litigation — routinely defending them against claims of medical malpractice, product and professional liability, and insurance coverage.

From initial litigation strategy to discovery to the courtroom, Brie is focused on pursuing outcomes that meet the client’s definition of a “win”— whether in settlement discussions, mediation, or court proceedings. She digs beneath the surface to find information opponents do not. Brie has particular experience with complex medical causation issues.

Brie has successfully represented Fortune 500 companies, including large regional healthcare facilities, local medical practices, and healthcare professionals in claims of medical malpractice in Florida, Alabama, and Oklahoma.

Brie is also an active Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel (FDCC) member, an exclusive, invitation-only international organization of civil defense attorneys in private practice, in-house counsel, risk managers, and insurance claim professionals. She currently serves as the Vice Chair of the Healthcare Section and the Professional Women’s Forum. She is a member of the Admissions Committee and Trial Tactics Section.

Brie serves as the Vice Chair of the Women Lawyers Committee in the United States Law Firm Group, a national group formed in 1984 consisting of 19 established, independent U.S. law firms with strong relationships.

Outside of her legal practice, Brie is committed to improving the lives of children in South Alabama through a nonprofit she co-founded with her husband, Grant. Since its inception, Fuse Project has raised more than $4 million to help bridge the opportunity gap for children. Known as the “community difference maker”, Fuse Project has funded more than 49 realistic, tangible life shifting projects in South Alabama and created a thriving co-working space in the heart of downtown Mobile.

With deep roots in the South Alabama business and civic communities, Brie leads Phelps' Mobile office as its managing partner.

    Experience

    • Successfully resolved an Alabama case for a Fortune 500 clinical laboratory involving a hospital’s claim for indemnity under a laboratory management agreement for a wrongful death. The court granted a dispositive motion in favor of our client which fully dismissed all damages claimed by the hospital and resulted in complete dismissal of the case.
    • Won a declaratory judgment action in federal court that fully exonerated an insurer from claims of bad faith and damages of more than a million dollars.
    • After finding the piece of evidence that was critical for defense of claims against a clinical laboratory, we were able to successfully resolve the multimillion dollar claims of personal injury and medical negligence prior to trial in a Florida state court.
    • Secured summary judgment for a home health company against claims of medical negligence in Alabama state court. Client was fully exonerating of all alleged wrongdoing and case was dismissed with prejudice.
    • Successfully defended multiple claims of wrongful death for clients where a negative jury verdict could devastate viability of client’s company.
